Before and After: The Living Room

We bought our house in August 2020, and over these 2 years, I think the living room has undergone the best transformation! Keep scrolling to see our living room in every stage (and rug…) so far!

And — I'm going to share the before and afters of each room in my house, so subscribe to make sure you don't miss it!

With that, let's dive into the living room!

The Listing Photo

Just to see exactly where we started. Fun fact, the previous owner of the house came across my instagram and messaged me! We chatted and she said she loves what we've done with the house!

September 2020

This was RIGHT AFTER we moved in. Hand-me-down furniture (which we were SO grateful for) and a rug that I impulsively bought just to get a rug in the space. When I started decorating the rest of the house, I quickly ended up disliking the rug. Learn from me… live in your space for a little while before making significant decor decisions like a rug.

December 2020

Lots of changes between this picture and the last! We got a new couch, a new rug, and Zack built the picture ledge behind the couch.

But this rug… was also a mistake. I loved it for a while, but the white shag rug did not hold up in our high traffic, dog-friendly living room. You live and you learn!

August 2021

This picture shows when I really started to get into interior design. Some small changes that made a big difference: Moved the (new) rug so only the front legs of the sofa were on the rug. Raised and widened the curtains. Added a mirror to bounce light around. But one small annoyance… we had gotten rid of the brown recliner and moved the couch over, but consequently, the picture ledge was now off-center. I also got a new ottoman.

January 2022

Now this… this was *chef's kiss.* I refinished our 100-year-old door, painted the living room with inverted trim (Trim is Yarn by Magnolia and Walls are Simply White by Benjamin Moore), added a statement plant, some coordinating throw pillows, the bench Zack made from a live edge slab of maple, and centered the picture ledge. Just… LOVE.

September 2022

My living room now… even better than the last. The new rug inspired a color scheme that I'm absolutely in love with. Besides the rug, there have been minimal changes, just decor and textiles!

Again, I'll be sharing before and after photos of each room in my house, so be sure to subscribe to the email list so you don't miss it!
